Why not propose in a location with stunning scenery? There are many popular and beautiful spots which are suitable places for wedding proposals. These include grand European cities, secluded lakes, and mountains with panoramic views. Restaurants or balconies at the summits of tall buildings are also chosen by many prospective spouses.
If the proposal is going to take place outside, it is a good idea to check the weather first and make sure that the date will be sunny. It may not be a good idea to propose in a high place if the intended spouse is scared of heights!
Here are five of the best places to propose:
1. The Eiffel Tower in Paris
Where better to propose than in the icon of the most romantic city in the world? Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes in the exclusive restaurant of the Eiffel Tower, but this is a very expensive choice. Other locations with attractive vistas of Paris include the tourist restaurant and the observation decks. In winter there is an ice-skating rink on one of the levels. Why not propose on a frosty, star-lit night overlooking the glittering lights of Paris?
2. The Italian Lakes
The Italian lakes are full of charming, old-world towns with lakeside promenades. Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore, for example, has a promenade by the lake lined with grand Edwardian hotels and flower-filled gardens. This would be a lovely place to propose. An alternative is to propose on one of the ferries while crossing the lake.
3. The Swiss Alps
Think of all of the possibilities for proposal settings while on holiday in the Swiss Alps! There is the tiny town of Interlaken with its steep furnicular ride up to the Jungfrau or there is Mount Piraeus near Lake Lucerne. It’s hard to think of more romantic places than the peaceful mountain villages and towns in the Swiss Alps surrounded by lush greenery and filled with history.
4. Lake Louise in Canada
The setting of Lake Louise surrounded by high snow-capped mountains is also perfect for a romantic proposal. This is probably the most beautiful sight of the Canadian Rockies and beloved by many movie-stars and wealthy tourists. There are many sites suitable for proposals here, including the elegant Chateau Lake Louise and the many hiking and wilderness trails on the shores of the huge lake.
5. The Spanish Steps in Rome
Prince Frederick of Denmark proposed to Crown Princess Mary in Rome, although the exact location of the proposal is unknown. The Spanish Steps with its cinematic views over Rome is probably the perfect place for a romantic proposal. The steps are prettier in the summer or spring when there are lots of flowers on both sides of them.
All of these places are perfect for weddings and honeymoons as well. It’s a romantic idea to hold the wedding in the same spot where the proposal took place.
